NATIONAL AWARDS

Bob Muller Memorial Award. For the most outstanding contribution to the promotion or publicity of gliding in the past year. Nominations to Australian Gliding, Box 1650, Adelaide, SA 5001. W.P. Iggulden Award. For outstanding service to gliding in the area of administration. The Ryan Award. For outstanding service to gliding in the area of airworthiness. The Hoinville Award. For outstanding service to gliding in the area of operations or sporting achievement. Nominations for these three awards to the GFA Awards Committee, c/o 17 Sandy Crescent, Salisbury Park SA 5109. --Any person may make nominations for the awards. It is usual for applications to be forwarded through the various GFA regional committees to the awards committee convenor (or AG as appropriate). --It is not uncommon for an award not to be presented, if there are no suitable applicants in any year. --The awards are presented during a dinner at the GFA annual council meeting. Note: - Nominations for the above awards are called for annually in "Australian Gliding" . National Trophies --The following GFA trophies are awarded annually, for the best flights carried out between 1 January and 31 December. --The Martin Warner Trophy is awarded for the best gain of height. --The Bob Irvine Trophy is awarded for the longest cross-country flight on Handicap. --The Wally Wood Trophy is awarded for the longest cross-country flight. --Do you aspire to any of these? If so you must send in a claim, otherwise someone who made a lesser flight than yours may get the credit. --Send details to Fred Foord, GFA Trophies Officer, 18 Fremantle Rd., Port Noarlunga South, SA 5167. --You may submit a claim by letter, but include a copy of the barograph trace, and/or distance claim verified by an Official Observer. If the flight has already been verified either by the GFA certificates officer, or the decentralised comps officer, tell me, and that will suffice.

South Australian Gliding Association

News & Mail Gliding Trophy - S.A.'s oldest, was first awarded in 1949. Awarded for the best gliding achievement of the season. Winter Trophy - awarded for the longest flight (on handicap) between May 1st - 31st August President's Trophy - The 'Come & Get It'. Picked up from the holding club by any pilot from another club making a successful goal flight from their home site to the site where the trophy is held. Fred's Finial - Awarded to the best single flight by a pilot flying a "Stick & String" glider entered in the national de-centralised competition. Jubilee Cup - Awarded for the best performance at National Competitions. From the State Championships: For the winner of each class:- Handicap Class Trophy 15m Class Trophy Sports Class Trophy Bond Trophy - to the pilot displaying the greatest determination and meritorious effort during the state championships. A.A.U.P. Club Trophy Awarded to the club who demonstrated the greatest participation in State events.

Victorian Soaring Association

Ron Roberts Trophy. This trophy is awarded for the longest flight made by a VSA pilot (ie a member of a member club of the VSA) commenced from a VSA administered airfield during the year commencing on 1st May and finishing on 30th April of the following year. It can be awarded jointly. Bob McCullough Trophy. This is awarded to a nominee of a VSA club who is seen to have made the most outstanding contribution to instructing in the VSA region during the year commencing 1 May and finishing on 30 April of the following year. David Hooper Memorial Trophy. Presented for the longest flight made by a VSA pilot (ie a member of a member club of the VSA) within two years of going solo, commenced from a VSA administered airfield during the year commencing 1 May and finishing on 30 April of the following year. Note: Nominations for the Ron Roberts and David Hooper Memorial Trophies should comply with the requirements of the Sporting Code. In the case of the David Hooper Memorial Trophy, evidence, confirming the date on which the nominated pilot first soloed, should be submitted.

Steve Lundy Trophy Awarded to the W.A. League 1 State Champion each year C.R. New Trophy Awarded to the W.A. League 2 State Champion each year Pacific Pools Trophy Awarded to the W.A. Standard Class Champion each year Ross Weston - Veterans Trophy Highest placed competetor in Handicap Class over 50 years of age. Control Data Team Trophy Highest placed predesignated Team (club) Beverley Shire Trophy Fastest Handicap 300 km+ task flown at Championships Bob Porter Handicap Trophy Highest Handicap score in combined Open, Standard & Sports Class Basil Cazalet Trophy Awarded to the "best of the rest" - a pilot judged to be the best of the unplaced entries at the State Championship Competition. The Royal Aero-Club Trophy For the best "Out and Return" flight in W.A. each year Ken Hodgkinson Trophy Club setting most records in previous 12 months The 'Come and Get It' Trophy Picked up from the holding club by any pilot from another club making a successful goal flight from their home site to the site where the trophy is held. We 'Don't Want It' Trophy Left at the site of a club by a pilot who has brought it with them from own site by making a successful goal flight.
